Home Phone Savings

Filed under: Phone — Jan @ 10:47 am

I have a cell phone, but keep my land-line for faxing and because I have two daughters who love to talk! The unlimited minutes for a cell phone gave me less options than a land-line for about the same price, so I keep the land-line at home.

I re-evaluated the bill and realized I could take voice messaging off and get the bare minimum-saved me a little over $15 per month- about $180 per year. Which equals about 6 months of my basic phone bill now.

I thought I could do without voice messaging, but after about a week, I discovered it is an inconvenience for those who call on the house phone. I purchased a $15 answering machine which costs the same as about 2 3/4 months of voice messaging.

The other options that we rarely use are available on a per use basis.

I still have my personal cell phone, the land-line is mainly for the girls. I’m still trying to see if there are ways I could save on the cell phone, but haven’t come up with anything.

Energy Boomer

I have a link to Energy Boomer in my sidebar. It is Birney Summers’ blog about saving money on energy bills at home and at work. It was started in March 2007. His mission is to help people save money on energy bills and to do his part to help save the planet.

It is a great blog with practical ideas and helpful suggestions. I like that he doesn’t limit himself to saving at home. He expands the suggestions to the work place. This is a great idea, because saving at work not only has a great impact, but it can inspire and encourage others to take what they learn at work about saving energy home.

Some of the categories on his blog include:

  • Air Conditioning
  • Bio Fuels
  • Clothes Drying
  • Driving
  • Heating
  • Landscaping
  • Windows
  • Working at Home

There is a nice list of links to related sites, most popular posts, and recent posts. This is a great resource and you will find many more ways to save money on utility bills and save energy. I’m glad Birney chose to share his expertise on Energy Boomer.
